Oh Allah, I'm Stuck in Lodi, Again

Michelle Malkin reports that a witness at the trial of Hamid Hayat and his father, Umer, for lying to FBI agents about the son's attendance at a terrorist training camp, has testified that Ayman Al-Zawahiri, Osama bin Laden's top strategist and personal physician, was in Lodi, California in 1998 and 1999.

Either the witness is mistaken, or...

There were in Summer 2002, several stories around that President Clinton had a plan to "roll back" Al Qaeda. Others on the right side of the center aisle doubted that. If Al-Zawahiri was indeed wandering around central California in 1998 and 1999, that fact speaks volumns about the Clinton plan.

A short history: On August 23, 1996, bin Laden issued Al Qaeda's first "declaration of war"against America, his "Message from Osama bin Laden to his Muslim brothers in the whole world and especially in the Arabian Peninsula: declaration of jihad against the Americans occupying the Land of the Two Holy Mosques (Saudi Arabia); expel the heretics from the Arabian Peninsula." (Emphasis added).

I'll skip the multiple bombings of American assets by al Qaeda around the world.

In February 1998 bin Laden and several leading Muslim militants declared the formation of a coalition called the International Islamic Front for Jihad Against the Jews and Crusaders to fight the U.S. Member organizations included Al Qaeda, the Egyptian Islamic Jihad led by Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri, the Egyptian Islamic Group, and organizations engaged in Kashmir and Bangladesh. Bin Laden was appointed to head the Front's council (shura). The militants signed a fatwa (religious opinion) outlining the Front's ideology and goals. The fatwa was published in a London-based Arabic paper, Al Quds Al Arabi; it called on all Muslims to "kill the Americans and their allies - civilians and military," wherever they may be.

So, after numerous bombings and two declarations of war against us, the Clinton plan included allowing the number 2 man in al Qaeda to live and worship openly in and around Lodi, California.

Wow, some plan.

Comments:
And the Republican plan? Well, one could take the view that the current adminstration igbore the threat of Al Qaeda between the 2000 election and 9/11; that the curent administartion falled to take appropriate action to capture Osama bin Laden when he was in Tora Bora; and that the prosecution of the war in Iraq has allowed Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, a terrorist monster who has proclaimed himself the head of Al Qaeda Mideast, to employ Iraq as a staging ground for crimes against Jordan; Colaition troops, and Iraqi citizens.

Curse you Bill Clinton. It's all your fault.

Pretty much. Glad to see you're realizing it. Had Clinton taken out bin Laden before al Queda metastesized, things would certainly be different. Clinton did squat for 8 years, Bush for 8 months. You can probably guess which one I put the bulk of the blame on.

R,

I hate to generalize, but le maladie du temps for your political persuation is to blame Clinton. Over 1000 square miles of the Texas Panghandle has been consumed by flames in the last week. I am waiting for Bill O'Reilly and Ann Coulter to come up w/ the Clinton connection.

The avian flu? Bill Clinton is lurking there somewhere. I understand he was personally responsible for adulteraing the feed of that cow in Alabama which was euthanized after which it was discovered it had BSE.

I seem to recall that we shot some criuse missiles @ both Afghanistan and the Sudan. Not successful, but not nothing.

Meanwhile, if Mr. Clarke is to be believed, when this administration took office, he advised them regarding Al Qaeda, but W was already looking to make the case against Iraq. If the Republicans are going to proclaim themselves to be the party of personal responsibility, kindly remeber 9/11 happened on their watch.

Million dollar cruise missiles against 20 dollar tents. Not nothing but so close as to be in the rounding error. I don't believe Clarke. Yes 9/11 occurred on our watch. I don't immediately jump on Clinton but when liberal MSM float the story that Clinton was on top of this and had a robust plan which Bush ignored, I desire to add a little context. Good Eats at 8?

Old discussion, but if anyone is still there, I think it is hubris to apply post-911 thinking to a pre-911 world which, in essence Roger, is what you are doing here.

Having said that, I think you are both mistaken if you mean to say that one party is mure culpable than the other. They both did (or didn't do) their part in the run-up to 911.

But it did happen on Bush's watch.

Good to see that we can agree on the date of the occurrence of the second attack on the World Trade Center, which occurred after President Bush had been in office some 8 months and three weeks. But Mike is right, this is old news and we have a tough future to face (and write about in relative safety). Oh Lord, I'm stuck in the blame game, again.

Being a 5th generation Lodian, and a smartass, I have been telling friends and family for months that Osama himself has probably been in town. My capitalist idea; t-shirts with Osama's picture with the tag line "stuck in lodi". I would sell thousands...ok, dozens.
